Venice is located in northeastern Italy. It has 150 canals, 409 bridges, 118 islands and it is considered as Italy's most beautiful and romantic city and one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Venice is the capital city of the Italian region Veneto. It is located 6 hour drive by car from Rome. Number of tourists who visit Venice annually is countered in millions. A lot of tourists come to Venice during the carnival, biennials and the oldest film festival in the world. Due to a large number of tourists who visit Venice every day it is very important to choose the right time for your visit. We chose the end of September, during the week, which turned out to be the right decision.
For those who arrive to Venice by car there is a large parking garage called Tronchetto Parking. We parked our car in Tronchetto Parking Garage, where the price for all-day parking is 21 EUR (24 USD) and then we continued with water transfer, which takes 20 minutes from parking garage to old town of Venice. You have several options of water transfers to choose, from public water buses to private water taxis. Water transfer takes you to the center of Venice. A few minute walk and you are in Piazza San Marco, from where you can see Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Basilica and Grand Canal, known as main attractions in Venice. In Piazza San Marco, with large number of tourists from all over the world, there are "high-prices" shops, restaurants and bars.
Old town of Venice is entirely pedestrian zone, so we decided to see the town and the canals from the famous Venetian gondola, a thousand-year-old means of transportation in Venice. The gondola is traditional Venetian boat, today considered to be the most romantic transport in Venice, mostly used to carry tourists on rides through the canals. The gondola is propelled by a person called gondolier. Gondoliers, mostly males with striped shirts, invite tourists to take unforgettable gondola ride. Prices for the gondola ride are from 80 to 120 EUR (from 90 to 135 USD), depends on the duration of the ride.
Our gondolier has taken us on a beautiful panoramic tour through the canals, from both sides surrounded by elegant palaces and baroque shaped buildings with large windows. You can feel the past and for few minutes you can go back in a period of rich Venetian aristocracy.
Venice is unique and special city mostly because of its canals and rich Venetian history. All these plus a touch of romance and mystery of numerous canals through which Venetian gondolas glide silently, absolutely confirm the reputation of Venice to be the most romantic city in the world. You just have to choose the right person to experience romance in Venice with you.
